General Freight Policy

ALL FREIGHT IS SUBJECT TO SPACE LIMITATIONS

ALL PASSENGER FREIGHT MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR NAME. DAVIS PARK FERRY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR Unlabeled AND MISSING Items

OVERLOADED AND OVERPACKED CARTS WILL BE DISMANTLED FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR CREW AND CHARGED ACCORDINGLY. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BROKEN CARTS RESULTING FROM OVERPACKING

Freight will not be SHIPPED until it is paid for in full - freight is cash only

Each passenger is limited to one carry-on item under 25 lbs. Carry-ons must fit under the seat or on the passenger’s lap to be considered a carry-on. Any additional freight is charged for according to size and weight (minimum charge $1.50).

Passengers with more than 5 items of freight MUST arrive 30 minutes prior to ferry departure time, and passengers with 5 or less items should arrive 15 minutes prior. Failure to arrive on time could result in passenger and freight missing the ferry altogether. Bulky, heavy, or oddly shaped items, such as lumber, building supplies, overpacked or oversized carts, appliances, and furniture are NOT permitted on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday without prior arrangement. Please make alternate arrangements by contacting the office. These items are always subject to space considerations and the captain’s discretion.

ALL BAGGAGE IS SUBJECT TO INSPECTION BY USCG REGULATION


Restricted Items

The following are only permitted on passenger trips with prior arrangement:

  • Appliances

  • Furniture

  • Building supplies

  • Lumber

The following items do not require prior arrangement but may be refused passage or delayed if space is unavailable:

  • Oversized or overpacked carts, including garden carts

  • Oversized or overpacked bags, boxes, and coolers

  • Bicycles & Scooters*

Call or use the form at the bottom of this page to arrange for passage for these items; 3 days advance minimum notice. All items must be paid for prior to shipment. Passage is subject to space limitations and is at the discretion of the captain. Restricted items are never permitted on high traffic trips, i.e. 10 AM, 4 PM.

We have VERY limited interior storage space for large items. When possible we can store large items for a maximum of 2 days before shipment, so please arrange accordingly.

*Please note: Town ordinance prohibits the use of bicycles, scooters, and skateboards on all boardwalks. There is a bike rack for public use in Patchogue on the North Side of the terminal
If you must bring your bike or have a beach bike, the freight charge is $5


Prohibited ItemS

The following are NEVER permitted on passenger trips:

Flammable Liquids, including

  • Gasoline (incl. empty gasoline powered machines and containers)

  • Propane (incl. empty containers)

  • Kerosene (incl. empty containers)

These items MUST be shipped on a separate freight trip. Please call or email to make arrangements.


Freight Boat

Freight boats generally run every Friday during July and August, in tandem with the scheduled passenger trip.

The freight boat arrives in Davis Park around 10AM Fridays to load outbound freight for those moving out. Please make sure your freight is clearly marked, placed on the dock, and ready to depart at that time. Your freight will be waiting for you in Patchogue when you arrive.

Freight trips then run to Davis Park at 1:30, 3:30, and 5:30 most Fridays. To arrange for delivery of restricted or prohibited items, please contact the office.


Deliveries & packages

Davis Park Ferry will accept deliveries on your behalf at our main terminal during regular hours. Please address packages as follows:

UPS, FedEx, and Amazon deliver directly to our terminal. If your items ship via USPS, they will be routed through our P.O. Box and therefore delayed. In general, these services deliver in the afternoon.

Grocery deliveries - We only accept grocery deliveries made through Pat’s Marketplace and King Kullen. We do NOT accept Instacart, Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh or anything similar. These services to not package items properly for shipment or give us any customer information and therefore we cannot be responsible for any goods ordered through them.

Any and all deliveries are subject to a minimum freight charge of $3 per package, due upon pick-up.
